The free tier is real: you can browse characters, start conversations, and get a feel for the platform before entering payment details. The onboarding is fast — pick a character, choose a model, start. No preference survey, no multi-step setup. The experience is designed for users who want to start immediately rather than spend time building a character.

The character library is the strongest first impression. Volume aside, the range is wide: photorealistic and anime styles, dominant and submissive personalities, MILF and mature options, trans characters, celebrity-inspired companions. Six LLM models are available — each with a distinct chat style from romantic to explicit — and you pick per conversation, not per character.

The subscription unlocks the platform. Neurons tokens are a separate layer charged on top for image generation, voice interactions, and video. Understand both cost lines before committing — the subscription price alone does not cover heavy multimedia use.

What works — and what's strong

Character consistency is better than most competitors. If you build or choose a dominant character, she stays dominant — no random pivots mid-scene, no personality drift. The platform's decision to let users pick LLM model per conversation is unusual and useful: a softer model for emotional chat, an explicit model for adult content, switched on demand.

Image generation is fast — under 10 seconds for most outputs — and the quality is competitive with the category leaders. What frustrates users

The Neurons token system is the dominant complaint in user reviews, and it's legitimate. The subscription grants a monthly token allowance; images, voice interactions, and video each consume Neurons on top. On heavy use, the allowance runs out quickly. There are no partial refunds, no rollover, and no warning system before you hit the wall. Users describe this as "microtransaction hell" — a fair description if your usage pattern involves regular image generation.

Voice quality is the other gap. The feature exists, and basic voice message delivery works. But the emotional delivery is noticeably behind dedicated voice-first platforms. The voice library is limited to around six options. For users whose primary requirement is voice, JOI is not the right tool.

The subscription base price is among the lower end of the category, particularly on the annual plan. Neurons tokens are sold separately in packs, with larger packs offering lower per-token cost. The actual monthly spend for a user generating images regularly is significantly higher than the subscription price suggests. Calculate both lines before subscribing.

Annual commitment with no refunds is a meaningful risk. The monthly plan costs more per month but removes the commitment. For a first month, monthly is the right call.

If a friend asked: good if the character library and multimedia are the priority, go in with eyes open on the token costs and don't start with the annual plan.
